About 200 are being sent final demands by auditor Sir Thomas Legg to return up to 1m of taxpayers cash. At least one married MP couple will be asked to repay more than 100,000, senior Commons sources suggested. A further 30 or more MPs will get new demands averaging 20,000 after Sir Thomas checked their mortgage papers and found they had made unreasonable claims. In a further blow for MPs, it also emerged today that new independent expenses supremo Sir Ian Kennedy was set to rule out a major pay rise for at least five years. Meanwhile, Sir Thomas Legg, who was tasked by Prime Minister Gordon Brown with scrutinising all claims for the past four years, has decided not to accept excuses or delays and will publish his report naming and shaming the culprits on December 14. Yesterday it emerged nearly 40 MPs have signed a Commons motion calling for an increase in their 65,000 salaries. But Sir Ian, chairman of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, has made clear privately he wants reform to bed in first. A source who has spoken to him said: The public has to see the new system working and trust it before we can even talk about that. The mother of three was last night picked as one of the three candidates to fight the Conservative St Jamess Ward in Westminster in next Mays council elections. Many credit her for converting her husband to a Blairite, which helped secure the Labour support he needed to get elected Speaker Of The House Of Commons. Mark Oaten, who quit as Lib-Dem home affairs spokesman in 2006 after it emerged he had visited a rent boy, spent eight days in a Dagenham tower block. He said: It is one of the toughest things I have done. It is no way to house people in the 21st century. Shadow childrens minister Tim Loughton, former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith and Labours Austin Mitchell will also appear on Tower Block of Dreams, which will be shown early next year. PGORDOn BROWn promised today that the Governments points-based immigration system will help control population growth. The Prime Minister pledged that Britains population -- currently 61 million -- will stay below 70 million despite official forecasts that it will reach that figure in 2029. Mr Brown was today announcing that hospital consultants, civil engineers, aircraft engineers and ships officers will be removed from a list of workers Britain will recruit from outside the EU. He was claiming that the points system has contributed to a 44 per cent fall in inward migration over the past year. He told The Daily Mail: The points system that is now being strengthened is having a major effect. Home Secretary Alan Johnson has refused to back a cap on immigration, saying he was not worried about the population hitting 70 million. A poll for the Unite union found that immigration is the biggest factor in Labour losing votes. Shadow immigration minister Damian Green told GMTV the proposals will make very little difference.
