More than 50 lorries a day will transport earth dug from sites including Bond Street station, Oxford Street and Charing Cross Road. The work, which will take place from 8am to 6pm, will affect routes includ- ing Oxford Street, Shaftesbury Avenue, Tottenham Court Road and Marylebone Road linking the sites to main arterial roads, such as the A40. Tunnelling will take place from 2011 to 2014, and 7.3 mil- lion square metres of earth will be excavated. A report for Westminsters planning department says the lorry routes will affect qual- ity of life and campaigners, residents and politicians have voiced fears. Jace Tyrrell, of The New West End Company, which represents the areas busi- nesses, said: Noise, pollution, congestion and public safety issues will have a significant and negative impact on visi- tors to the West End. The council will consider the proposals on Thursday. Crossrail said: We have a strict construction code and will not stray from that.
