TEACHER LEAVES BEFORE FACING SCHOOL DISCIPLINARY PANEL StPaulsbike stationfight CITY chiefs are fighting plans for a docking station for Mayor Boris Johnsons bike hire scheme near St Pauls Cathedral. The Corporation of London is poised to refuse planning permission for the station and payment terminal in King William Street, after a report claimed it could endanger pedestrians. BY KEVIN WIDDOP Inbrief Stage proposal is just a bit hairy AN INSURANCE broker proposed to his actress girlfriend in front of a packed West End theatre audience. James Peachey got down on one knee on stage to pop the question to Emma Dodd, 31, during curtain call at Hairspray in the Shaftesbury Theatre -- and she said yes. Mr Peachey, 26, of Ipswich, who works in London, said: It was nerve-wracking to ask her in front of all those people. Charge your car at Sainsburys LONDON took a step towards becoming the electric car capital of Europe today when Sainsburys launched a network of charging points at its stores. The move was welcomed by Mayor Boris Johnson, who wants to introduce 25,000 refuelling docks in the capital by 2015. Sainsburys installed two points at nine of its London stores, including Camden, Chiswick, Cromwell Road and Islington. Leading head quits over 1.6m illegal bonuses scandal A LEADING headteacher has resigned over claims that he and senior colleagues took home 1.6m in unlawful bonuses. Sir Alan Davies, knighted for services to education, quit before he was due to face a disciplinary panel over the reported culture of nepotism and greed at Copland Community School in Wembley. His deputy, Richard Evans, was fired for gross misconduct, while the schools human resources manager has stood down. All three could face a police investigation as the school considers how t o re c ove r at le a s t 1,565,700 in bonuses and other payments which auditors said could not be justified. While senior staff -- including Sir Alans caretaker son -- received the extraordinary bonuses, pupils were taught in temporary huts and class- rooms crumbling due to a lack of investment. A culture of extrava- gance saw Sir Alan and Dr Evans court the famous and powerful. They hosted black-tie dinners in the House of Commons and received visits and support from prime ministers, a US president and Nelson Mandela. It is believed Sir Alan took home more than 600,000 in unjustified pay- ments on top of his 103,000 salary. When the alleged bonus payments came to light, he said: I am worth it for all the extra respon- sibility I have taken. He was suspended in May pending an investi- gation and had been due to appear before the schools disciplinary panel this week.
