IN&OUTTONIGHT 18 Tuesday, 3 November 2009 London Lite favourite food to stuff we like to do in London. Every so often James would mention something in conversation he would like to do in the near future, like a club hed like to go to, and I was wonder- ing if he meant that hed like to do that with me. I hoped so but I couldnt tell. I had no expectations before the date as Im not that kind of person. I thought Id just make the most of the night and have a good time. The whole thing was much more fun than I had expected, it didnt seem awkward at all. It was hard to judge whether James was really flirting or whether it was all just jokey banter. However, he did say that I looked stunning so I took that to mean he was at least a bit interested. James was quite formal in asking for my number -- he said he would like to see me again and could he have my number -- but I was happy he asked for it. I gave him a goodnight peck on the cheek but nothing else. I think perhaps I was a little more reserved than normal because of the blind date set-up. Weve been texting a little since and we are meeting up again next week. I think Ill just go with the flow and see how it goes. James seemed like a real gentleman the whole night -- maybe next time that behaviour wont last! Didshe LOVE Single FILEWhathappened whenwesenttwoLite readersforadatebeing serenadedbyoperasingers? Fiona Mahoney, a 25-year-old marketing co-ordinator from Watford, chose to date James Kingley, a 20-year-old electronic engineer, also from Watford. We sent them to be entertained by opera singers who have previously sung at Sir elton Johns parties, to see if music is truly the food of love. W H E n I arrived at the restaurant in Mayfair they told me James had called to say he would be a little late. It was fine, he didnt keep me waiting long and I thought it was very polite of him to have called. Then he walked in holding a bouquet of flowers for me, and was really good-looking, so it was worth the wait. I was surprised at how attractive he was and fancied him from the off. Id chosen James as hed been in Ibiza this summer and so had I. That gave us a good place to start our conversation and as we are both quite chatty, the talk flowed through the evening. James is quite a lot younger than me and I did think twice about that before choosing him, but I generally think younger men can be more respectful than older guys, and he didnt seem remotely immature. In fact, I had a great time with him and knew from the outset that I would want to see him again. The date itself was fun. The restaurant served excellent food, and the opera sing- ers created a great atmosphere -- theyve previously sung at parties hosted by Sir Elton John and the King Of Jordan. They were mainly walking around the tables entertaining people but they also sere- naded us. Strangely, we discovered they were also called James and Fiona! The waiters lavished loads of attention on us which helped create a romantic atmosphere -- we had lots of champagne and wine and they even laid out my flow- ers on our table. I would definitely recom- mend it for anyone wanting to treat someone to a special night out. We talked about everything from our SHESAYS: Fancy going on a date with this hottie, courtesy of Lite? Thousands are looking for you at Suburban secret: Tai Pan in Northwood CHEAP DATE IT WAS 10pm in Northwood after a couple of drinks in town and the last thing we were expecting was a top- class meal. But then my man and I wandered into the local Chinese restaurant, Tai Pan (17-19 Maxwell Road, northwood, Middlesex, 01923 826744, taipannorthwood.com). Wow! What a treat! The staff were charming and the food came in no time. We had steamed vegetable dumplings and tofu balls in spicy sauce, then sizzling fish in black bean sauce, grilled prawns with garlic and ginger, rice, noodles with chicken and fried chilli asparagus. All amazing. We washed it down with a few beers and the whole lot came to less than 50. Apparently its Aldo Zillis favourite Chinese restaurant (he used to live in the area) and its hardly surprising. Plus afterwards, rather than feeling full of greasy rubbish, we felt sated.
