TELEVISION Filmchoice FILM RATINGS excellent very good good average poor KEY (R)repeat (S)subtitles on text service STEPHEN MARR BBC2 ITV1 Channel 4 Five London Lite Friday, 30 October 2009 29 Shaun Of The Dead ITV2, 9pm (2004) Simon Pegg, above, stars in this zombie- action-comedy-romance -- surely in a film genre all of its own. Shaun (Pegg) has just been dumped by his girlfriend Liz, but thats the least of his worries. He suddenly finds himself surrounded by flesh-ripping freaks, and has to come up with a survival plan quickly. Answer? The pub. The Constant Gardener ITV3, 11.15pm (2005) DonT let this relatively nice-looking photo fool you -- theres not much joy in this film. Rachel Weisz thoroughly deserved her oscar for this disturbing story about big business hiding big secrets in Kenya. When a young activist is murdered, her diplomat husband (Ralph Fiennes, above with Weisz) takes up her dangerous cause. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome ITV1, 10.35pm (1985) AS THe mad max movies continued, the plotlines became more convoluted (and, lets face it, the first one was a pretty silly concept). This time max -- in between bouts of stumbling around in the desert -- fights people in front of a screaming audience, then comes across a bunch of kids who think hes a pilot. Stars mel gibson and Tina Turner, above. Battlefield Earth ITV4, 10pm (2000) JoHn TRAVoLTAS renaissance as a Hollywood star ended abruptly with this lamentable turkey of a sci-fi adventure. After enslavement and near destruction by an alien race, humanity begins to fight back in the year 3000. Travolta, above, and his entourage earned $40m from this film -- and, as far as i am aware, they remain the only people to benefit from its existence. 10.30 This morning (S).
