Rail: Old St. Fri 7pm, 6 JOINED by the 30-strong London Bulgarian Choir, the Doves BBC Electric Proms appearance came frustratingly close to being one of 2009s great concerts. The two camps were a delightful contrast and brought out the best of each other, most staggeringly on the former instrumental Firesuite, where the band played and choir wailed over them, turning what had been a forgettable album opener into an unforgettable tour de force. Theyre giving me the tingles, cooed lead Dove Jimi Goodwin. All agreed. That, though, was as bold and brilliant as it got, for (excluding the Doves-free slots that bookended the encore) the choir was relegated to the role of backing vocalists. Even here though, they made already fine songs -- such as Kingdom Of Rust and Catch The Sun -- even better. Doves were more than adequate without them, yet there was the sense that a wonderful, boundary-pushing opportunity was missed. Tingles: Goodwin last night IN TOWN LAST NIGHT...
