But the singer- turned-actress, who plays the lead in this drama about a shy girl whos forced to sing in public to impress her mums boyfriend, received a standing ovation from a discerning West End audience. While the magnificent Lesley Sharps detestable alcoholic mother Mari dominates the first half of Jim Cartwrights play, the stronger second half belongs to Vickerss Little Voice. Her characters progression from a wide-eyed, silent teenager to a goose bump-inducing, Marilyn Monroe- imitating temptress ensures Vickers steal the show. Accents are at times a little shaky but by the time Little Voice has finished the plays last song -- written especially for this production by Take Thats Mark Owen -- youll be as moved as the rising star looked during last nights curtain call.
