In his submission to the Committee on Standards in Public Life, senior Labour MP Andrew Dismore revealed he is giving stranded MPs lifts home when votes are held after the Tube has stopped. Other MPs have called for a rise, from 7,500 to 12,000, in the additional salary paid to London MPs to reflect higher living costs, and for bigger allowances for offices and staffing. Hendon MP Mr Dismore wrote that outer London MPs would need help getting home after late votes at Westminster. The previous night the House finished voting at 1.30am, he wrote. Several London Members were left stranded. I gave two MPs a lift home. It is rather ironic that House officers are provided with a taxi service home after late night divisions, a number of whom earn far more than MPs, but MPs who need it do not get this provision. Commons officials who live within 15 miles of Westminster are given free taxis after late business in the House. From April, outer London MPs lose the right to spend up to 24,000 on overnight accommodation in London or a second home. No 10 and the committee today played down the idea of a raise in MPs 64,000 salary. Letter: Andrew Dismore LoopholeoverLordshomeexesadmitted PLEASE RECYCLE YOUR COPY OF LITE RESPONSIBLY THREE Metropolitan Police officers had to knuckle down and push their car when it broke down just off Oxford Street today. And maybe it hadnt been cleaned, let alone maintained for a while -- the uniformed officers pulled on purple forensics gloves before they attempted the push-start to keep their hands from getting dirty. Quick, before were clamped: the push-start officers today Thefullforce ofthelaw... MORE than 90,000 residents may not receive compensation after suffering from a three-day power cut on the London and Kent border. Homes in Dartford, Orpington, Erith, Bexleyheath and Crayford were left without power in July after a suspected vandal attack on a cable bridge. EDF Energy had offered 50 goodwill payments but is now hoping for an exemption to compensation, claiming the incident was out of its control. PPARLIAMENT chiefs today admitted that there is a huge loophole in the regulations allowing members of the House of Lords to claim expenses. Critics claim that peers who live in the capital and maintain second homes in the country have been wrongly taking thousands of pounds of taxpayers cash for years. Under Commons guidelines, MPs theoretically have to spend most of their time at the main home. But Clerk of Parliaments Michael Pownall said last night there was no definition of a main address in the guidance for the Lords and so he could not uphold a complaint that Liberal Democrat peer Lord Rennard had wrongly claimed the overnight allowance. Lord Rennard has a home in Stockwell but in 2007 redesignated his second property in Eastbourne as his main home. The Sunlight Centre for Open Politics had alleged he spent more time in London than in the country.Cleared: Rennard People wanting an orgy... -- BBC newsreader FionA bRuCe, left, stumBles over a report starting people wanting a mortgage You look like a poodle -- simon Cowells mum, juLie, reveals an early put-down By the x faCtor mogul... his reaCtion to her hat, aged seven Its usually Like A Virgin -- and that is the one I dont want to hear -- mADonnA hates it when restaurants start playing her songs as she arrives DiSTRibuTion HeLPLine: If you have any comments about the distribution of London Lite, ring 020 7651 5276, or email distribution@thelondonlite.co.uk On the Tube JOURNEY PLANNER For the easiest way to get around London visit tfl.gov. uk and click on journey Planner London travel information Call 020 7222 1234 24-hours Textphone 020 7918 3015 Travel alerts receive free real-time travel info on your mobile or email, subscribe at tfl.gov. uk/travelalerts for more information on oyster, visit oystercard.com Lu Customer services for inquiries, call 0845 330 9880 between 8am and 8pm daily Congestion charging for payment details call 0845 900 1234 or visit cclondon. com London Travelwatch Call 020 7505 9000 or visit londontravel watch.org.uk Roadwatch bloomsbury Way: one lane closed eastbound due to roadworks.
