Angela Chalmers, a pharmacist from the Holloway Road Boots, answers your queries about high blood pressure. What causes it? High blood pressure, or hypertension, means your heart is having to work harder than normal to pump blood around your body. It occurs when either systolic blood pressure (pressure exerted by the heart as it beats) is consistently higher than 140mmHg, or diastolic pressure (when the heart is resting between beats) is above 90mmHg. A persons general lifestyle plays the most important role. Risk factors include age, alcohol consumption, poor diet, smoking, lack of exercise and obesity. What can I do? Leading a healthy lifestyle such as having a balanced diet and taking regular exercise will help treat high blood pressure or minimise your risk. Omega-3 supplements can also benefit. If concerned, visit your GP. There are also home-testing monitors that allow you to keep an eye on your blood pressure. Products to consider: NiQuitin Minis Mint 1.5mg Lozenges (60 lozenges for 13.99) to help you stop smoking. Contain nicotine. Boots High Strength Omega-3 Fish Oil Capsules (6.99 for 30 capsules) contain fatty acids EPA and DHA. Homedics Automatic Arm Blood Pressure Monitor (68.50) allows you to take blood pressure and pulse readings yourself. Prices Not crazy expensive but not exactly cheap either. The most basic facials start at 90 and go up to almost 200. Full-leg and bikini waxes are 65 and massages start at 45. Recommended treatment The salon uses Natura Biss products -- a range of Spanish products adored by the likes of Rosamund Pike and Kate Beckinsale. Try the Alternativa facial, which is said to reduce expression lines and wrinkles thanks to an ingredient called Octamioxyl. Fans swear its a non- invasive alternative to injectable fillers but at 180 its not something youd have every week. Otherwise, try any of their glycolic facials, which gently exfoliate and renew your skin for three days after your treatment. Service This salon has been going for almost 50 years and all the staff scream experience. The X-factor The design is slick, white and space-age without being naff and theres a really nice buzz about the place. The treatment beds are the most comfortable weve ever reclined on. It was hard to leave. Celeb rating The members of Girls Aloud have been known to pop in for a bit of a pamper, as have the ever-cool Jagger sisters. Is it worth it? Yes, yes, yes. This is a proper old-school salon, where the therapists know what theyre doing. Youll leave looking better than you came in. 10/10 By ReBecca HowaRd-dennis 10 out of 10: Michaeljohn in Mayfair index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html24.html25.html26.html27.html28.html29.html30.html31.html32.html33.html34.html35.html36.html37.html38.html39.html40.html41.html42.html43.html
