How do we know we are not dreaming right now? Can we change our destiny? And why did the spectacular, Eton- schooled and Guildhall- trained Dominic West have to star in The Wire before becoming a household name? West plays Segismundo a Polish prince whose father imprisoned him at birth because astrology warned he would bring disaster. When the king changes his mind and releases him, the prince lives up to the prophesy until a complex love affair persuades him to grow up. Helen Edmundsons version of the drama could have spared us some of the monologues but the combination of simple staging and a magnificent cast ensures it is a dream, not a nightmare.
