They bought the property in 2006 for 592,000. We originally looked in Wandsworth, beside the common, but the prices were so high. Not only do you get more for your money here, but there is a brilliant train, which goes to Waterloo in just over 10 minutes. But most of all I love how much space I have in my home. We have the bedrooms that we need and a nice garden. I walk to Wandsworth pretty regularly -- Southside shopping centre is a 10-minute walk, the common is about seven minutes and Balham is a 20-minute walk away. Earlsfield has pretty much everything I need -- theres Sainsburys, a great florist and a gift shop called Sugar Bag Blue that I love going to. Now I wouldnt swap Earlsfield for Wandsworth, even if they were the same price. NICK KYBERT, 29, lives in a four-bed terrace home in Stockwell. He bought the house for 290,000 in 2005. My home is on the border of Stockwell and Clapham. How I see it is I get the benefit of the bars and restaurants of Clapham, which I can walk to, combined with the affordability of Stockwell. I love being between the two places. Clapham is young and vibrant, while Stockwell is really convenient to get to places. You wouldnt really guess there is a recession going on in the area -- house prices seem to be going up and all the restaurants and bars are full. Most of my friends rent in Clapham, and now they are considering buying they are making the move slightly further out. KATE BRIGHT, 30, lives in a two-bed flat in Clapham old town, which she bought through shared-ownership developer Notting Hill Home Ownership. She paid 81,250 for a 25 per cent share of her two-bed flat in April. For 10 years Ive rented in Clapham and watched while prices have gone up. Everyone told me Id never be able to afford to buy here, and I started to believe it. Then I saw the site here was being sold through shared ownership and it seemed to solve all my problems. I love Clapham -- its my home, my friends live here and it suits me perfectly -- but its so expensive to buy outright. I couldnt live anywhere else. I had toyed with the idea of moving to Stockwell or Vauxhall, but I knew Id be miserable. Its such a young, buzzy atmosphere here. I live right in the heart of the old town. Vivienne Westwood lives close by. I also feel safe here. The flat is very smart -- everything is new, theres a large balcony and its open-plan. Without shared ownership I would have had to continue renting. The property market is so unfair on people who are single, like me. In my block everyone is in exactly the same boat -- none of us could afford to buy here without a partner, so this was the next best thing.
