JONATHAN ROSS is preparing for life after his BBC golden handcuffs deal ends and may work as well for rival broadcasters, it was reported today. The presenter, 48, is the highest-paid star at the Beeb, raking in 18m as part of a three-year contract. But he is expected to be offered a much-reduced deal when his contract ends next year, after controversy over lavish BBC salaries funded by licence fee-payers during the credit crunch. It means he may look at removing the BBC exclusivity clause in his deal. The chat show host, 54, has been lured back with the promise of a Friday night programme running head-to-head against Jonathan Ross on the BBC. The prime-time ratings slot would mark a U-turn for OGrady after he made an astonishing attack on ITV when he left in 2006, saying: I would rather be sweep- ing the streets than working for ITV. Working at ITV was like the court of Caligula. I cant work for these petty tyrants any more. Channel 4 budget cuts of up to 60 per cent meant his daytime series The Paul OGrady Show faced the axe, and a break- down in talks for a show with Sky was thought to have led to his move. OGrady, whose dog Buster accompanies him on screen, said: We cant make it on that budget. Itd be just me and the dog. The Scouser, famed for his drag alter ego Lily Savage, is set to sign a two-year deal believed to be worth 8m. ITV refused to comment. AUDIENCE members for the Question Time edition featuring British National Party chief Nick Griffin are being rigorously vetted to weed out anti- fascist demonstrators, it was claimed today. It is feared protesters could disrupt the recording of the BBC1 programme, due to take place at the White City studios on Thursday next week. As well as the normal detailed questionnaire, applicants will be checked for involvement with such organisations as United Against Facism, which plans to blockade the studios on the day and has urged supporters to apply to join the audience. The corporation confirmed it is working closely with the Metropolitan Police and Hammersmith and Fulham council to keep a lid on the protests. The show panel is also due to feature Justice Secretary Jack Straw and black writer and academic Bonnie Greer. BBC sources say the security situation is being monitored on a daily basis. Outlander because Im in it. Its a feel-good action flick set in 709 AD in Viking times in Norway but its also a science fiction movie. High heels or trainers? Trainers. I find heels really uncomfortable. And I like comfort. When I wear heels on the red carpet it doesnt feel like me. Futuristic sci-fi fantasy or period drama? Sci-fi fantasy because you dont have to wear corsets. Ive done way too many corset movies and now Ive got back problems as a result. TV or movies? Not bothered. Its about the story not what size screen its on. Notting Hill or Primrose Hill? I was born in Notting Hill and my Dads first parish -- he was a vicar -- was St Georges Church in Camden Hill Square, so I was kind of posh by default. London or LA? London because theres a soul here. I didnt realise how much I loved London and England until I left. LA was great for me from a work perspective. On-screen nudity or body doubles? On-screen nudity. If you say yes to using a body double then they could shoot all kinds of porn stuff and the audience would still think its you. John Malkovich or Johnny Depp (left)? Ive worked with both so could I choose both? They were both lovely and lived up to every fantastical expectation I had of them. The X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing? X Factor. I like the auditions at the beginning best. The delusion is hilarious.
