The Swiss are guaranteed a play-off spot and will top Group 2 if they beat Israel. Greece are the only team that can catch them, while Latvia are still in the hunt for second place. In Group 3 the Czech Republic and Northern Ireland face each other on Wednesday knowing that only a win will keep alive their hopes of earning a play-off spot that is also reliant on Slovenias result -- Slovakia win the group if they beat Poland. Miroslav Kloses goal won Germany Group 4, forcing Russia into the play-offs. Spain made it nine wins in a row in Group 5 -- Bosnia are in the play- offs. Ukraine will go into the play-offs if they complete the straightforward task of beating pointless Andorra. The picture is complete in Group 7 with Serbia qualifying as winners and forcing France into the play-offs. It is a similar story in Group 8 where Alberto Gilardinos late leveller against Ireland sent the holders through and forced Traps troops into the play-offs. Group 9 was already completed before the weekend with Scotland failing to make the play-offs having lost their final match at home against the Dutch who, like Spain, can boast a flawless record. THE USA and Mexico are safely through after beating Honduras and El Salvador respectively. Costa Rica are in pole position to nab the third automatic spot but need to beat the States to do so. If they draw or lose, Honduras could slip in through the back door should they beat El Salvador. The fourth place team face a two-legged play-off, potentially against Argentina. MARTIN PALERMO earned Maradona a stay of execution at the weekend with a late winner in the 2-1 win over Peru. Argentina are now up into the fourth automatic spot, but only a point ahead of Uruguay, who they play in Montevideo on Wednesday in a winner-takes- all clash. The loser of that game will miss out on the play-offs should Ecuador win away against already-qualified Chile. NEW ZEALAND will be hopeful of reaching the finals after they held Bahrain to a goalless draw in the first leg of their play-off at the weekend. The second leg takes place in Wellington on 14 November. IVORY COAST will join South Africa in the finals after Didier Drogbas equaliser against Malawi. Cameroon leapt to the top of Group A with a 3-0 win over Togo, who now cant qualify, but they must wait a month to book their place and will need a win away against Morocco to be sure. Tunisia were moments away from qualification after they beat Kenya, but a 93rd minute goal from Nigerias Victor Obina kept the Super Eagles in with a shot of top spot in Group B. Alegeria dispatched Rwanda 3-1 last night, meaning the Desert Foxes will be in South Africa should they avoid defeat by two goals in their final game against Egypt.
