POLICE are deploying armed checkpoints in north London to tackle feuding Turkish gangs engaged in a bloody turf war. Detectives are linking at least three murders and three shootings, while a fourth killing where two suspects have been charged is also thought to be the work of gang members. Now Scotland Yard is to deploy extra armed officers in four boroughs, while automatic number plate-recognition cameras will be used to check vehicles. The initiative follows two killings within three days earlier this month. Senior detectives are con- cerned that innocent passers-by could be caught up. On 2 October, businessman Oktay Erbasli, 23, was shot dead at the wheel of his Range Rover in Tottenham in front of his passengers -- his girl- friend and her five-year-old son. It is believed Mr Erbasli was a member of the Tottenham Boys gang and was targeted by a motorcycle hitman from rival group the Bombacilar. Three days later, in an apparent revenge attack, shop worker Cem Duzgun, 21, was shot dead in a social club in Clapton. Two men walked to the door of the club and one opened fire indis- criminately with an Uzi-style semi- automatic weapon. Police are now linking the mur- ders to other shootings, stabbings and armed robberies. They include the murder in March of innocent shopkeeper Ahmet Paytak, 50, who was blasted by a hitman on a motorcycle in a shop doorway in Holloway. Police have offered a 20,000 reward to catch the killer. by georgina littlejohn THE jacket Michael Jackson planned to wear for his gigs at The O2 arena was revealed today, as the King of Pops first posthumous single was released. The stunning bejewelled piece was hand-made by designer Zaldy and will be one of many rare Jacko pieces at Michael Jackson: The Official Exhibition, which opens at The O2 on 28 October. Sony delivered copies of the single, This Is It, to radio stations at 7.30am today with a security convoy to rival that of royalty. The song is actually a reject from recording sessions for the 1991 album Dangerous, although Sony is billing it as Jacksons new single, saying he probably planned to debut it at The O2 shows. The ballad sounds as if it dates from the same era as Black Or White and Heal The World. It mixes love-struck lyrics and orchestral swoons, and features cooing backing vocals recorded by Jackos brothers after his death aged 50 in June. The line: Im the light of the world suggests he was already into the Shot: Ryan Bennett Final finery: Jacksons stage jacket by Zaldy was revealed today as This Is It, inset, was released by amber cowan messianic phase culminating in his performance at the 1996 Brit awards dressed in white robes. Despite the fact that it sounds like a twinkly Christmas No1, the single is not for sale, but trails the double album This Is It, out on 26 October. The film This Is It follows on 28 October, while rapper Akon also hopes to release a track he worked on with Jackson. So is that it? Given the likelihood of more rejected songs lying around Jacksons studio, probably not.
