Andrew LLoyd webber today unveils the long-awaited sequel to his most successful work -- and this time The Phantom of The opera will be haunting new york. The world premiere of Love never dies will be at the Adelphi Theatre in London in March, but the setting for its tragic tale moves from Pariss opera house to Coney Island fairground. Lord Lloyd-webber said: Coney Island is a fantastic place, where all the freaks went. The Phantoms now the mogul running the whole place when our story starts. Iranian-born singer ramin Karimloo, cur- rently playing the Phantom in London, takes on the role in the new production, with American Sierra boggess, 27, as his great love Christine daa. The original show has grossed well over 3bn and drawn an audience of 100 million. Its a very tough act to follow, admitted Lord Lloyd-webber. It was ben elton who created a storyline he believed would work for the new show. The story was unlocked by ben who did a wonderful synopsis, the composer said. The Phantom of The opera opened at Her Majestys Theatre in 1986 with Sarah brightman and Michael Crawford in the lead roles. It cele- brates its 23rd birthday tomorrow. Tickets for the sequel go on sale today, with the premiere at the Adelphi in the Strand on 9 March. on some days fans will be able to see a matine of the original followed by an evening performance of the new show.
