Clement, 44, submitted receipts to City Hall claiming meals with Claire Dowson were business dinners with council lead- e r s . B o r i s Johnsons f o r m e r a i d e today pleaded guilty to using his Greater London Authority credit card three times last autumn. The ex-postman was earning nearly 128,000 when he claimed three meals worth 156.70 a t t h e t a x p ay e r s expense. District Judge Timothy Workman called it a blatant breach of trust. The former leader of Bexley council f aced up to six months jail or a hefty fine when sen- tenced at City of Westminster Magistrates Court later today. In a statement, Clement said he was truly sorry, adding: I have failed to live up to the high stand- ards of office. I have given many years of dedicated public service to London, which has been my pride, my passion and my life. That is now over. There is no denial in regards to my responsibility. I very much regret and indeed am truly sorry for my actions and that these have let down many good people, my family, my friends and colleagues including and not least, the Mayor of London.
