IN&OUTTONIGHT 18 Tuesday, 6 October 2009 London Lite weights later this week. Annette met my requirements for the perfect woman: she is fun to be around, shes interesting and shes very pretty. I SAW Alex in the paper and thought, Oh, hes cute. The date did start a bit formally with questions like what do you do?, where do you live and so on, but soon we were Did he LOVE Single FILEWhat happened when we sent two Lite readers on a date learning how to make glass objects? ALEX McCANN, a 25-year-old actor from Tooting, chose to date Annette Brook, a 27-year-old writing programme co-ordinator from East Dulwich, as he liked her smile. We sent them on a glass-blowing lesson to see if they got hot under the collar for each other. I CHOSE Annette because I thought she had a really nice smile and that it was great that her idea of a good night out is Eighties music. That made her sound fun. We went to a glass-blowing lesson for the first part of our date and it went really well. It was an amazing experience. I had grand visions of making a massive glass structure, but in the end we made a paperweight each. The people running the session were brilliant. It was all very calm and profes- sional. It might sound unusual but Id really recommend it to anyone into art of any kind. Its really creative and although its quite hard at first, you can pick it up fairly quickly. Having said that, although I tried to make my paperweight into the shape of a bat, Annette said it looked like an owl. We went for a meal at The Blue Elephant restaurant in Fulham which was beautiful. We had a selection of pretty much all the food on the menu and a bottle of wine. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Because I am an actor and Annettes job involves writing, we found we had a lot in common and chatted really easily. We talked about novels weve both read, and then moved on to discussing our families and friends. It turns out we have a mutual friend and were even at the same party one night. I could only stay for half an hour because I had to be somewhere but its weird to think that if Id stayed longer we might have known each other before last night! After the date we went for a drink in Leicester Square and traded numbers. We havent actually arranged a second date yet, but I think were planning on meeting up again when we go to pick up the paper- Fancy going on a date with this hottie, courtesy of Lite? The place was great -- the food was cheap and delicious and the atmosphere was really chilled. The restaurant itself is long, dark and narrow with cool music and modern art on the walls. The menu was huge, with a mixture of Chinese, Thai and Japanese food. Overwhelmed with choice, I ordered my usual chicken pad thai which was huge and perfectly cooked -- and only 6.50. Jane had sweet and sour pork (5.50) and steamed rice (1.50), which she said was more Chinese than Thai, but delicious. The house white, 10.95, was lovely, no reason to spend more. We left full, happy and only 12 a head poorer. Whats not to like?
