THIS year, to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, there are exhibitions, processions and concerts (but no sign of the Hoff recreating his infamous NYE concert as yet, sadly) happening all over the city, culminating towards the end of the year. On 9 November a giant domino chain will topple, following the walls former route. The last domino will send fire- works exploding over the Brandenburg Gate and hail the start of a concert and all-night party. Nows the time to head to Europes most hedonistic city to mix fascinating history and culture with the best clubbing around. BED DOWN FOR a taste of bad old East Berlin, check out Ostel (ostel.eu), a Mitte Friedrichshain budget hotel rampant with communist- era design. Choose between the larger Stasi suite and a multiperson pioneer camp. Rooms are decorated with graphic, Sixties-style wallpaper and portraits of former communist officials and public figures. Prices range from 8-54 per night. The Ellington Hotel Berlin (ellington-hotel.com) is quite a lot smarter, but still afford- able and full of slick touches. Doubles start at 117. HIT THE TOWN OPINION is divided on Berlins hot Berghain & Panorama Bar. The door policy is draconian, so if youre in a big group or are noticeably merry, dont bother. Take note, its for hedonists only, but the Panorama bar upstairs is a little more restrained. REFUEL MA Tim Raue (Behrenmstrasse 72, marestaurants.de) is the place to see and be seen right now. Try the six- course tasting menu (128, excluding wine) and youll be taken on a culinary adventure. DONT MISS THE Jewish Museum (juedisches- museum-berlin.de), designed by American architect Daniel Libeskind, is simply unmissable. Journey through two millennia of German- Jewish history. HOW TO GET THERE British Airways (ba.com) flies from Heathrow to Berlin from 159 return. MORE DETAILS visitberlin.de Wetellyouwheretogoandwhen...
