6 Wednesday, 30 September 2009 London Lite World at a glance Rafflesthemost-wanted hotelthiefseizedbyUScops ONE of the worlds most wanted conmen, who escaped from a British prison after stealing from wealthy hotel guests in London, has been seized in the US. Juan Carlos Guzman-Betancourt, 33, assumed the identities of clergymen, sheikhs and princes to steal millions of pounds in cash and jewellery over 15 years. Following thefts at hotels including the Mandarin Oriental, The Dorchester, the Four Seasons and The Savoy, he was jailed for three and a half years in 2005. But the Colombian, who modelled himself on Raffles, the fictional gentleman thief, absconded from Standford Hill open prison on the Isle of Sheppey in June the same year. He has now been arrested again, while waiting for a cab at a petrol station in Vermont. He is wanted in Canada, Colombia, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Thailand and Venezuela, and has been linked to crimes in France and Switzerland. He is also set to be charged with a 160,000 robbery in Las Vegas in 2003. Feckoff,FatherJacktellscampaign THE actor who played Father Jack in cult sitcom Father Ted has spoken out against his character being used by the No campaign in the Irish vote on the EU Lisbon Treaty. Frank Kelly objected to a poster of Father Jack which read: Tell Em To Feck Off. Vote No. He said campaigners did not seek permission to use the image of the foul-mouthed, drunken priest. Its not anybodys right to grab, he said. Its my business how I vote. Shrimpssuffertouristtoilettrouble TOURISTS relieving themselves on Australias Uluru -- also known as Ayers Rock -- have killed off a rare species of shrimp, a scientist claims. A guide recently bemoaned the sites lack of toilet facilities. Fury at Tates nude shot of Brooke, 10BY MARK BLUNDEN Angry: Jack Picture of the day A PROVOCATIVE nude picture of a 10-year-old Brooke Shields will appear in a new exhibition at the Tate Modern. Gallery chiefs said they sought legal advice before including the work, Spiritual America, in the Pop Life: Art In A Material World show opening tomorrow. But the decision has already sparked outrage from childrens charities. Richard Princes image of Shields shows her from the knees up, naked, oiled and wearing make-up, looking directly at the viewer. It is hung in a special room at the Thames-side gallery with a notice on t h e d o o r w a r n i n g visitors they may find the image challenging. The picture was originally shown anonymously in a disused shop in New York, and the Tate show is believed to be the works first appearance in a UK gallery. Jack Bankowsky, the exhibitions co-curator, said he hoped artistic interest in Spiritual America would not be overshadowed by controversy. But Michele Elliott, founder of childrens charity Kidscape, called the image soft kiddy porn.
