Tube: Elephant & Castle bOOKinG nOw Packed benefit show bills can seem incoherent, but not so last nights for detained Iranian human rights activist Shahidi. Perhaps because, as Lucy Porter suggested, of the genial atmosphere between mainly female comedians not prone to the competitive willy- waving of their male counterparts. certainly, the few men did not dominate. arthur Smith was as genial as ever but seemed ill-prepared while dan antopolski peaked with a possibly treasonous gag calling the Queen a QILF then descended into dinner party-bore stories about his kids. Stewart Lee, however, was more impressive, his hypnotic delivery turning riffs on middle-class dilemmas into something hysterical. But it was the women who really shone. Organiser Miriam elias modern art and existentialist hamster jokes started things off sparkily, and flares-clad aussie Sarah kendalls warped world view won over the crowd. danielle Ward was an engaging anecdotalist and Roisin conatys pub car park avant-garde pain-based piece was barking but brilliant, while psychotic country singer Loretta Maine delivered that rarest of things, genuinely funny -- if scary -- comedy songs. But the aforementioned Porter was the real gem: despite, or perhaps because of, being really drunk, she was free-wheeling and warm in her delivery and her observations on girls comics, fancying teenagers and bank phonelines flowed together impeccably. and luckily, given the diversity of performers, so did the night. index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html24.html25.html26.html27.html28.html29.html30.html31.html32.html33.html34.html35.html36.html37.html38.html39.html40.html41.html42.html43.html44.html45.html46.html47.html48.html49.html50.html51.html52.html53.html54.html55.html
