TEENAGE girls as young as 14 are carrying guns for criminals in a new trend in Londons gang culture, police revealed today. In a drive against gun crime, officers warned young women of the grave consequences of storing weapons for gangsters. They said new statistics showed a sharp increase in the number of women caught in possession of firearms in recent years. The campaign is designed to prevent girls like Jodie Cousins from falling into gun crime. Cousins, 19, from Cricklewood, was jailed for two years last month for possession of a firearm after being coerced by a man into hiding a 9mm revolver at her house. Officers received more than 20 calls following the reconstruc- tion of the horrifying incident when the woman was attacked after three armed robbers burst into her London home. A source said they had received several calls which were of consider- able value, including a couple of names that could be of interest to the inquiry, following the appeal which featured in the Lite yesterday. The 33-year-old victim, who was seven months pregnant at the time, had been watching TV with her partner on 14 May last year when masked raiders burst into her home in Finsbury Park and held a sawn-off shotgun to her partners head. She was told it was her lucky day by one of the men before being subjected to a sexual assault which police described as oral rape. The men stole belongings and cash before escaping in the couples Audi TT. Police said they were convinced someone knows the suspects, who were shown on CCTV footage during last nights appeal on BBCs Crimewatch. The victim told of her ordeal last night as police offered a 20,000 reward to capture her attackers. She said: I remember begging him not to hurt me and him telling me it was my lucky day. There was so much racing through my head about the best thing to do. I was so close to having my first baby and just did not want anything to go wrong. The victim has since given birth to a healthy child. Figures show more than 11,000 women were given fertility treatment in the capital in 2007 and gave birth to 4,227 babies -- 11 a day. It comes as the number of women undergoing IVF treatment nationally rose to 36,861 in 2007 -- an increase of 5.8 per cent on the previous year. From tomorrow all fertility clinics are to be rated on the chance of women treated there delivering a baby. Most of the amended Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act will also come into force. This allows people conceived by a sperm or egg donor to identify their half-siblings. The new website from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, called Choose a Fertility Clinic, will give the predicted chance of a live birth at each clinic. Figures from the HFEA show that 32 per cent of women aged 35 or under had a live birth after treatment, but only 3 per cent of women aged over 44 did.
