Tonight its a mother and daughter who get the benefit of Goks enthusiastic morale-boosting in tandem with a glamorous makeover, to take them from the hell of self-loathing to self-love heaven. The Fixer ITV1, 9pm ITs been a while, but tonight John Mercer is back to doing what he does best -- and that means going after some old school straight-ahead crims. Its a particularly bad lot, a father and son-led gang of armed robbers, and to get in with them The Fixer has to immerse himself in the world of cage-fighting. Which means theres something for everyone: action fans get to enjoy brutal but brilliantly-staged combat, while the many viewers who apparently find andrew Buchan as Mercer a bit of a dish can look forward to lots of bare, sweaty torso on display from the star. R ichard Wilson is just the man to present t h i s s u r p r i s i n g l y colourful look at how we deal with death. The actor experienced strange public grief when his character in one Foot in The Grave, Victor Meldrew, was killed off. he now seems fit as a fiddle, but at 72 Wilson is closer to the business end of proceedings than most. his exquisite comic timing adds the humour that helps to confront the great unknown. a visit to the city of london crematorium shows his gleeful relish for the subject: i can see a skull! he exclaims, peering through the peephole of the furnace. at a specialised coffin- maker he discovers some won-Dig it: Richard Wilson looks at how people deal with death EastEnders BBC1, 7.30pm Roxy discovers Ronnie (samantha Womack, pictured) is trying to get pregnant -- without telling Joel. Can she persuade Ronnie that she cant go ahead like this? Meanwhile, Christian is single again -- but will syed be able to escape his impending marriage to join his lover if he cant come out and tell his family hes gay? the send-off for her husband, where the large turnout of well-dressed mourners makes for a roadstopper -- as the daughter calls it -- to do any loved one proud. all of which is fine as a broad survey of the different ways we bury and remember our dead. Most affecting is the father who has placed his dead teenage son in the garden so the decomposing body can give life to the tree growing above. however, theres little reflec- tion on what the end to our conscious existence means, and the place of religion and a soul in all of this. at the end comes a line so glib it could get you the sack from a fortune cookie factory: one should live for the day and enjoy it.
