London Lite Monday, 21 September 2009 27 TELEVISION Filmchoice FILM RATINGS excellent very good good average poor KEY (R)repeat (S)subtitles on text service Persepolis Film4, 9pm (2007) IS THERE a stroppy teenage girl in your house? Stick her in front of the telly for this animation, above (yes, I know it will be difficult) about a young girl just getting into boys and make-up -- but shes in Seventies Tehran, with the tyranny of Islamic law looming. A fascinating film, based on Marjane Satrapis autobiographic graphic novels. One Fine Day Film4, 6.55pm (1996) GEORGE CLOONEY co-stars with Michelle Pfeiffer, both above, as single parents caring for each others children. If you dont find this romcom funny look out for unintentional laughs, like Pfeiffers hairstyle drying magically back into its couture cut after a storm, or the notion that the salary of top New York journalist Clooney cant run to an au pair. Honkytonk Man ITV1, 10.35pm (1982) CLINT EASTWOOD, above, is an alcoholic country singer dreaming of a last-chance audition in Nashville. But whos this Kyle Eastwood in the credits? Is he a relation of the director/producer/star, by any chance? If so, he hasnt inherited his dads acting talent, unfortunately. Thank goodness hes now earning a crust as a jazz musician instead. At First Sight BBC1, 11.05pm (1999) VAL KILMERS performance as a blind masseur who has an operation to restore his sight is so mannered and narcissistic you just cant warm to him. Luckily this romantic drama is saved by Mira Sorvino (above with Kilmer) as the architect he falls in love with, and Kelly (Top Gun) McGillis as his sister. Not as sentimental as youd expect, so its worth a look (pardon the expression). wENdy SayErS BBC2 ITV1 Channel 4 Five 10.30 This Morning (S). 12.30 Loose Women (S). 1.30 ITV Lunchtime News (S). 1.55 London News And Weather (S). 2.00 60 Minute Makeover (S).
