Wiggins, fourth in this years Tour de France, has been linked to the outfit being put together by British Cyclings performance director, Dave Brailsford, in a bid to win the sports biggest race. But there is no foundation to claims a 2m transfer fee has been agreed with his current team, Garmin-Slipstream. The three-time Olympic champion is a natural fit for Team Sky as he is British and, after his performances this summer, a contender to win the Tour de France. The 29-year-old Olympic gold medallist has admitted to speaking to Brailsford, his mentor in the national set- up, about joining Team Sky. But he has consistently denied he will leave Garmin- Slipstream before his contract ends next year. NELSON PIQUET SNR is threaten- ing to take Flavio Briatore to court in the hope of extricating his son fromadealinplacewiththe former Renault team boss. Despite the Crashgate scandal that resulted in Briatore resigning on Wednesday, and Piquet Jnr becoming virtually unemployable, the 59-year-old still manages the young Brazilian. Piquet Jnr has a contract in place that would see him give up a per- centage of his earnings to Briatore over the next 15 years. Piquet Snr is now awaiting the verdict from the World Motor Sport Council hearing on Monday before deciding whether to pursue a case against the Italian, who is still involved at QPR football club. I could not talk to other team membersaboutitbecauseNelsinho was working for Flavio and his management has a contract with the team, Piquet Snr said. Now I finally have something -- contractviolation--toputpressure on Flavio. If the FIA world council confirms the case, I will have a hold for going to court. The WMSC meet in Paris to review their case, and issue any penalty, against Renault over charges of conspiracy relating to last years Singapore Grand Prix. In deciding not to dispute the allegationmadebytheFIA,Renault have effectively admitted conspir- ing with Piquet Jnr of causing a crash to help team-mate Fernando Alonso, despiteBriatoresassertion lastFridayinMonzathatnowrong- doing took place. Briatore also commenced crimi- nal proceedings that day against the Piquets concerning the making of false allegations and a related attempt to blackmail. Former three-time world cham- pion Piquet Snr, though, admits he has nothing to fear on that score, telling Briatore: Just go ahead. He added: I have enough money toaffordthebestlawyers.Andwhat ishegoingtotrialfor?Doeshewant to put the truth on trial? Piquet Snr, who initially blew the whistle on the saga to the FIA, believes Briatore felt he was fire- proof given his prior standing in Formula One.
