Peter the panda managed to get out of his enclosure in the small hours of yesterday and run into Regents Park where he climbed a tree. Security staff alerted keepers from the zoo, who stayed under the tree monitoring him throughout the night. As dawn broke, they tried to coax him down with food but were unsuccessful and after several attempts, they shot him down with a tranquilliser dart and returned him to the zoo. A statement from London Zoo said: An investigation is under way to determine the chain of events which led to the escape. Six-year-old Peter and his 10- year-old female red panda companion Jerry arrived from Whipsnade Zoo in March.
