Who we saw doing what with who last night... LONDONeye W ELL DONE to Kanye West, who proved how much of a big man he is last night by doing his best to reduce a 19-year-old sweetheart to tears on live TV. The rapper shamelessly interrupted Taylor Swifts acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards by jumping on stage and telling the crowd in New York that she didnt deserve to win. Taylor (the biggest-selling artist of the year so far in the US apar t from Michael Jackson, we might add) understandably looked shocked when Kanye invaded the stage while she was accepting best female video. Taylor, Im really happy for you, and Im gonna let you finish, but Beyonc had one of the best videos of all time, he said, as a shocked Beyonc looked on and the crowd began to boo him. A crestfallen Taylor didnt finish her speech, but the crowd applauded her anyway. She later got her chance though, courtesy of Beyonc, who won video of the year for Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It). When she won, she recalled that she won her first VMA as a 17-year-old as part of Destinys Child. I remember how excited I was, she said. Id like Taylor to come out and have her moment. A smiling but nervous Taylor then said, Can we try this again? before going on to thank everyone she would have thanked had Kanye not interrupted her. The celebrity crowd was unforgiv- ing of the rapper. When Diddy read his name later in the show while introducing the nominees for best male video, the crowd booed, and Diddy said in mock surprise, What happened? The crowd responded by chanting Swifts name. They also booed his name later. Perhaps realising that he had been a total jerk, Kanye desperately tried to make amends in the early hours of this morning when he wrote on his blog: Im sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother wouldve said. She is very talented. He was clearly very emo- tional, as he wrote the entire apology in capital letters. Surely Taylor can forgive him now. 8 Monday, 14 September 2009 London Lite Kanye is booedfor cuttingin onspeech RapperstopsTaylorsmoment Janet&Madgejoin tributetoJacksonJANET JACKSON performed a duet, and Madonna gave a moving speech, as part of an extended Michael Jackson tribute at the MTV awards last night.
