As the Prime Ministers woes deepened with poor poll ratings and speculation about his leadership, it has emerged a team working for Labours deputy leader has been taking soundings from grassroots party members. The canvassing includes asking activists how well they believe Ms Harman is doing. One Labour MP revealed that one of his senior local party officials received a call from Ms Harmans office asking a series of question about Labours performance and Ms Harmans popularity. The survey will spark speculation that Ms Harman, who triumphed in the deputy leader race in 2007, is refining a computer database for a future leadership bid. Local party members are crucial in any leadership race as they have a third of the votes in the electoral college, as do Labour MPs and unions. The Labour MP said: Harriet Harman would be better off talking to voters, not positioning herself for any vacancy should it occur. Some people are making the assumption that Brown will go before the election and that its just a matter of timing. A new YouGov poll released today put the Tories on 41 per cent approval, with Labour marooned on just 27 per cent.Leadership goal: Harman Sid could buy shares in banks, say Tories PLEASE RECYCLE YOUR COPY OF LITE RESPONSIBLY EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Molly Elvin today urged children to plead with their parents to stub out their cigarettes. Molly, from Hammersmith, launched the new NHS Stop Smoking campaign with her mother Sam, 42, who has promised to quit by Christmas. Real smokers and their children are being used for the first time in a series of TV, billboard and internet ads. He was formerly London Underground chief executive officer before moving to BAA last year. Mr Brown, 45, is credited with restoring Tube services 24 hours after the 7/7 bombings. He succeeds Richard Parry, who stepped in as interim MD after Tim 0Toole left this year. PA CAMERON Tory Government could launch a Tell Sid-style sale of shares in the nationalised banks, it emerged today. Shadow chancellor George Osborne is looking at plans to sell chunks of RBS and Lloyds Banking Group to ordinary investors. Mr Osborne sees widening share ownership as an attractive way of unwinding the states entanglement with the banks. City Minister Lord Myners yesterday claimed the ownership of RBS and the Lloyds group -- both rescued from collapse by the Treasury -- represented a nice little nest egg for the taxpayer. It echoes the Tell Sid British Gas privatisations of the Eighties, in which the number of UK shareholders was tripled. The scheme would be pitched as giving the public a say over how the banks are run. Do I look like Im scared of heights?
