LITESPORT London Lite Friday, 11 September 2009 51 FROM ENGLANDBREAKING NEWS... Collingwood, Anderson to take a break PAUL COLLINGWOOD and James Anderson have been rested by England before tomorrows must- win NatWest Series clash against Australia at Lords. Despite being 3-0 down in the seven- match series, England told their two most-capped stars -- who have featured in every international since early February -- to go home yesterday. All-rounder Collingwood (above) has been told he is out for three games and seamer Anderson will miss the next two. Former captain Collingwood will return for the final match of the campaign at Chester-le-Street next Sunday while Anderson will join up with the squad again for the penultimate sixth match of the series at Trent Bridge on Thursday. England jet out to South Africa for the Champions Trophy on 21 September, which means this is the only chance for Collingwood, 33, to take a week off. He is contractually obliged to make himself available for the Delhi Daredevils in next months Champions League. Renault react on Crashgate RENAULT today launched legal proceedings against Nelson Piquet Junior and his father Nelson Piquet Senior in the latest twist in the Crashgate scandal. The FIA have launched an investigation into former Renault driver Piquet Juniors claims that he deliberately crashed his car in last years Singapore Grand Prix to help team-mate Fernando Alonso. Renault said: We have commenced criminal proceedings concerning the making of false allegations and a related attempt to blackmail the team. The matter will also be referred to the police in the UK. NO DEAL FOR HARMY OR MONTY: PAGE 46 Oh boy, Dannys still not fit for his Fulham return FULHAM may again be without club captain Danny Murphy when they bid to halt a run of three successive defeats at home to Everton on Sunday. Murphy hasnt played since he limped off last month against Chelsea with a calf problem. He said: Its a day-to-day injury at the moment. Ill only come back when its 100 percent rather than push it and do more damage. But there is better news for Welsh winger Simon Davies, who has an outside chance of making the squad to play against his former side after recovering well from an ankle operation. Davies said: Its really now about getting my fitness back. Ive been working really hard over the last six to eight weeks. If he doesnt make Sunday, Davies could be on the plane to CSKA Sofia for Fulhams first Europa League game on Thursday. The squad will definitely be tested this season, he said. Just as the injured Modric began to stamp his class and authority on this Spurs side, so Kranjcars form began to take a nosedive on the south coast. A change of club could be exactly what he needed. DARREN FLETCHER MAN UNITED AS was evidenced by his performances for Scotland, Fletcher isnt the sort of player who is going to win a football match on his own. But in a well oiled machine like United he is a vital cog in the wheel. With Owen Hargreaves unlikely to make an appearance before the turn of the year, Fletchers status as Uniteds spoiler in chief is almost unchallenged, particularly with Anderson and Michael Carrick way off the pace of late. Barry Fabregas Eboue Wenger: Where theres a Will theres away to win ARSENE WENGER believes William Gallas transformation from public enemy No1 to Arsenals Mr Dependable is complete. The 32-year-old was dropped and stripped of the captaincy in the week leading up to last Novembers trip to Manchester City, with many believing he had played his last game for the club. But Arsene Wenger has kept faith with the former Chelsea man, who is currently enjoying his best run of form in an Arsenal shirt, justifying his decision to let Kolo Toure join tomorrows opponents in a 14m deal last month. Gallas missed the miserable 3-0 defeat at Eastlands, and Wenger believes both the player and team has a whole have progressed rapidly since then. I am very impressed by Williams response and by what happened to him that week because it was a very difficult week, said Wenger. Overall, I believe we have moved forward a lot from what was a low point.
