Before The Weakest Link, Anne Robinson, right, presided over Watchdog, and after an eight- year break she returns to the popular consumer affairs magazine show, now with a new format and for the first time featuring a live studio audience asking their questions. Fans of Rogue Traders will be pleased to see the energetic Matt Allwright and his scam- busting undercover capers incorporated into Watchdog. The Love Of Money BBC2, 9pm You may wonder if we need more documentaries about the credit crunch, but this new three-part series is uniquely authoritative, with Gordon Brown and Alastair Darling among the interviewees. Tonight re-examines the events dealt with in fictional form yesterday in The Last Days of Lehman Brothers. Reality seems to have been even more dramatic: witness archive footage of Lehman Ceo Dick Fuld, the man nicknamed the gorilla, declaring his wish to crush his enemies. The breakneck descent saw his banks shares plunge from $85 to three cents. A tale of horror, laced with schadenfreude. G etting away from it all is one thing, but this is ridiculous. Having p r ev i o u s l y s c a l e d everest and trekked to the north Pole, film-maker ed Wardle now sets himself the challenge of three months in the wilderness of the Canadian Yukon, a forest region twice the size of the UK. Okay, youre thinking, thats nice for him, but whats the big deal? Well, heres the thing: for the entire time, hes going to be entirely alone. now, that may sound an appealing idyll for those of us stuck in the teeming big smoke, and the spectacular lakes and thickly forested mountainsides Wardle films are breathtaking. He is thrilled, too, by the wild-Fighting to survive: Ed Wardle embarks on a survival challenge survive: he feeds on fish and plants, but theyre not enough, and soon hes pulling in his belt a few extra notches. the cute porcupine is rapidly recast as an apparently delicious meal, skinned and roasted on a spit. this becomes an absolutely compelling account of a man gradually pushing himself to the limit. it helps that Wardle is no Bear grylls-type: he admits his survival knowledge is limited, which may sound foolhardy but certainly adds to the drama. By the end of this first of three parts, his face is hollow-cheeked and etched with fear, especially of the huge bears he knows are all around but cant quite ever see. Alone in the Wild is at times eerily reminiscent of the Blair Witch Project, especially the night-time footage, and, in its own way, just as haunting. 11.00 Cowboy Trap (S). 11.45 Cash In The Attic (S); BBC News; Weather. 12.15 Bargain hunt (S). 1.00 BBC News; Weather (S). 1.30 Regional News And Weather (S). 1.45 Doctors (S). heston helps Ruth come to terms with her condition. 2.15 Weakest Link (R,S).
