But if you havent seen the film or TV shows, bought the album, read the books, played the computer game or, er, squirted the perfume (he has more endorsements than Victoria Beckham), you probably dont like him enough to enjoy his one-man show. Tintin- quiffed Cumming loves himself even more than the whooping Vaudeville audience did last night. And while self-promotion goes down like apple pie in the US -- where this show was recently awarded five stars -- over here, gags that begin Talking about the Carnegie Hall, I sang there, and I dont know if youve ever been followed by paparazzi, but... tend to grate. The gay icon almost lived up to his own hype during a Hedwig And The Angry Inch medley and a rendition of Victoria Woods Thinking Of You. But his voice and exaggerated singing style werent quite up to passing this off as a concert, and the talking in between wasnt funny enough for stand-up. If youre already part of Team Alan you might have a good time. But for the uninitiated, this show is only a little more appealing than a squirt of Cumming the fragrance. lUntil Sunday Sadly, itsallaboutalan Another thing about me: Alan Cumming IN TowN LaST NIGhT...
