London Lite Thursday, 3 September 2009 19 Join a conversation about the National Identity Service The Identity and Passport Service (IPS) is part of the Home Office and is responsible for issuing passports as well as introducing the national identity cards. Soon, any person can apply for an identity card, which is designed to prove and protect their identity. We are organising a public panel to play an important part in the independent scrutiny of the National Identity Service (NIS). The panel will also give us the chance to engage with the public about how the NIS will work listening to their views, answering their questions and giving them the opportunity to influence our decisions. We will organise the panel to meet in six regional groups. We are currently inviting members of the public to join the first two groups, which will meet in the North and South of England. Each group will meet for half a day up to three times a year. We will refund reasonable travelling and associated expenses. To join the panel, you must be willing to give up your time to prepare for and attend the meetings. Its also important that youre an effective communicator and teamworker who respects other peoples views. We ask that youre over 16; legally entitled to live in the UK; are not an elected official; and have no links or commercial interest in us or the Home Office. If you are interested in joining the panel, visit www.ips.gov.uk/publicpanel and fill in an application form. If you need the application form in a different format, please email publicpanel@ips.gsi.gov.uk or call 020 3356 8174. Closing date is 12 September 2009. GARY LINEKERS new father-in-law today claimed he was heartbroken after missing his daughters wedding to the former soccer ace because of a family rift. Roy Bux said he only found out about the event in Italy when he read about it in the newspapers yesterday. Match Of The Day host Lineker, 48, married Danielle Bux, 30, on Tuesday in a secret low-key 400 service, followed by a night at a luxury hotel on the Amalfi coast. They tied the knot with just two witnesses and celebrated last night with a reception for family and friends. But Mr Bux, 54, a shopworker from Cardiff, today reportedly claimed he was left off the guest list after falling out with his daughter. The lingerie model is said to have been furious after her father let slip to the media she was engaged to Lineker, who is said to be worth about 30m. Mr Bux, who is divorced from Danielles mother, said: I love Danielle to bits and would do anything for her. A daughters wedding is one of the most important days in any fathers life. I am heartbroken. If I had gone Danielle would have been unhappy. I wish her and Gary all the very best. The pair met on a blind date in 2007, a year after the former Spurs star had got divorced from Michelle, his wife of nearly 20 years. The new couple looked thrilled in their official wedding photograph, which was taken in Ravello after their blessing.
