Director Anne Fontaine avoided turning the film into a celluloid version of a Chanel catwalk show by focusing on the designers early years -- before she was world famous. The clothes are still beautiful but the star here is definitely Tautou, who perfectly captures Cocos change in fortunes from orphan to seamstress to superstar. The only problem I had with the film was trying to get the ridiculous songs Tautou sings early on in the movie out of my head!
