London Lite Tuesday, 1 September 2009 E Continued from Page 1 Hunt: a police dog helps search the back yard at Garridos home in Antioch as officers investigate cases of Ilene Mischelof, 13, Lisa Norrell, 15, and Michaela Garecht, nine Ex-wife: he tried to gouge out my eyes Cops link kidnap of two missing girls to Garrido acted as a caretaker of the property next door to his home in Antioch until a tenant moved in three years ago. Police said Garrido lived at one time in a shed in the neighbouring yard and used outbuildings as an extension to the compound where he kept Jaycee, now 29, and the two daughters he fathered by her. Sheriffs spokesman Jimmy Lee said the bone was found during the weekend in a hunt involving dogs trained to find human bodies and is now being tested. A police source said Garrido bears a resemblance to a photofit drawing of the man who kidnapped nine- year-old Michaela Garecht from a car park in Hayward, California, in November 1988. The abduction happened one hours drive from Garridos home and the girl looked similar to Jaycee. Thirteen-year-old Ilene Mischelof vanished from Dublin, another town in the same area of California, in January 1989. Neither girl has been seen since and Garrido is now the prime suspect in both cases. Detectives also confirmed they are investigating the death of 15-year-old Lisa Norrell, whose body was found on an industrial site close to where Garrido used to work in 1998, and the murders of prostitutes in the town of Pittsburg, California. Garrido and his wife, Nancy, 54, were arrested last week and deny 29 charges connected to the kidnapping, rape and imprisonment of Jaycee. Garridos father, Manuel, 88, admit- ted today he was horrified but not surprised by the charges. He said it was possible his son was responsible for the murders of up to 13 women. He said: I believe my son killed the prostitutes. My son has done some very sick and very bad things and its right to look at all the other sick and bad things that happened around the same time. He also blamed his own ex-wife, Patricia, 88, who suffers from dementia, for failing to reveal that Jaycee was living with the cou- ple in Antioch. He also suggested Patricia may have acted as midwife to help deliver Jaycees girls Starlet and Angel, now 15 and 11. In chains: Phillip Garrido denies charges PhiliP Garridos ex- wife today described how she suffered at his hands. Christine Murphy said Garrido tried to gouge out her eyes with a safety pin when he saw a man flirting with her. he left a scar on my face, said Ms Murphy, who also told Us news show inside Edition how Garrido smacked her around. she said she became his first kidnap victim when she tried to break free. i was always looking for a way to get away.
