18 Monday, 24 August 2009 London Lite Trophy jackets forstyle winnersStatementwearforautumn W hen it comes to prize- winning style theres one particular wardrobe must-have thats win- ning hands-down this season -- the trophy jacket. Totally OTT, these jackets are designed to be the focal point of your outfit and are the perfect way to snazz up a slightly boring look. Whether its in bold, bright prints or multicoloured faux fur, smattered in sequins, embellished with beads or fringed with tassels, your jacket should be loud and proud to live up to its trophy reputa- tion. The key here is statement, not understated, so pile on the bling and turn up the colour for the best results. Designers have been competing for the top prize, following in the fashionable footsteps of Christophe Decarnin of Balmain, who arguably kick-started the trophy trend during spring with the infamous sell-out pointy-shouldered jackets -- statement-making indeed. Designer embellishment doesnt come cheap, though, and you can expect equally statement prices. Stella McCartneys blush silk embel- lished jacket with huge bow cuffs is as dreamy as it sounds. Its available exclu- sively at net-a-porter.com and we wish we could afford the hefty 1,295 price tag. Then theres Oscar de la Rentas patchwork version at close to 4,000 and embellishment at Moschino for nearly 2,000. So its prob- ably safe to say that most of us will be heading to the high street for trophy jackets this season instead. Luckily the high street anticipated the strength of the trophy trend and has catered for those without a spare few thousand pounds to splash out on a jacket. River Island has been really gunning for the top prize, with multiple statement jackets to choose from. Theres hot pink fur, silver sequins and black, glossy Balmain-esque jackets, so you could be making a different statement every day of the week (from 64.99). Topshop also has lots of pretty Stella- look jackets in Twenties-inspired embel- lished and fringed styles. One multicolour beaded jacket (125) has even been spotted on Drew Barrymore. Meanwhile, asos.com is a little slow off the mark and is expecting its trophy jackets on site in October -- if you can wait until then, that is. Sadly, therell be no prizes for guessing what you will be wearing this autumn. by rebecca boyce THISWEEK lite loves Finewineorfilthyplonk:findout at Westfields Meet & Wine thelook JensonButton& JessicaMichibata Hers His InexpensIve plonk YOULL notice that we plumped for the word inexpensive, not cheap -- we may economise but we still have standards.
