LITESPORT JOHN TERRY believes hell be sharing a planewithMichaelOwentoSouthAfrica next summer, but fears Manchester Uniteds new No 7 will be wearing a Pre- mier League winners medal. The 29-year-old, scorer of 40 interna- tional goals, has again been omitted by Fabio Capello for tonights friendly in Amsterdam against Holland, despite his high-profilesummermovetoManchester United and encouraging pre-season form. Havingallbutwastedthelastfouryears of hiscareeratNewcastle,Owensshock switch to the reigning champions was expected to enhance his England credentials. But the Italian boss, who has selected Owen only once since he took over in December 2007 in a friendly against FrancelastMarch, hasoptedtostickwith the unit which has maintained a 100 per cent record in World Cup qualification. But Terry is confident it wont be long before Owen wins Capello over with a goalscoring spree for United, but knows any such upturn in form would throw a spanner in Chelseas title charge. Hesaid:ImsureplayingforManches- ter United and training with those play- ers day in, day out, he is only going to score goals, which I must say is a bit of a nightmare for me as a Chelsea player because I want to win the league and get the trophy back off United. He only played 12-13 minutes against us in the Community Shield, but he still showed glimpses of what he can do. Can he play in the World Cup? 100 per cent, yes. Its obviously the managers decision. Ithinkthebosshassaidthatthereare places for anyone in the squad. The man- ager is not going to be able to overlook things if he is playing well, he will have to pick you. Terry will again lead his country into battle tonight, positive he and his team- mates have shed themselves of the fear factor which prevented them from performing against the big nations in the past. He said: We have all spoken about it in the past and every player would be lying if they said they didnt feel that bit of fear going intothebigEnglandgames.Nowthathas been wiped away and thats because of our performances. We have had to overcome that mental barrier, which we have done. 34 Wednesday, 12 August 2009 London Lite IM TERRYFIED OF Edson: Ive got the bottle to down Becks DAVID BECKHAM wont frighten tough Dutch defender Edson Braafheid in the AmsterdamArena tonight, with the Bayern Munich newboy having already faced the cream of world talent in pre-season action. Braafheid, 26, has enjoyed a whirlwind start to his Bayern career since joining for just 2m in June from FC Twente. He has already played against the likes of AC Milan stars Alexandre Pato and Ronaldinho, as well as Englands own Wayne Rooney. So he is thrilled at the chance to take on another football legend and enhance his own reputation as a defender who just loves to defend. The first few weeks of July were quite hectic for me, Braafheid explained. I had a duel with Pato, a little duel with Ronaldinho and also tested myself against Paul Scholes and Rooney when we played against Manchester United. So if Beckham plays for England on the right and I am on the left for Holland, that will be another nice duel for me. Braafheid is expected to get his chance with first-choice full-back Giovanni van Bronckhorst ruled out with a knee injury, and it is an opportunity he is keen to grab with both hands. This is great chance I think, he admitted. Van Bronckhorst is the usually the man in this position for the Dutch team, but he is not here.
