rooms from about $70 (42) per night. The hotel has been reviewed more than 1,100 times on travel website Tripadvisor and scored an approval rating of 88 per cent. Some reviewers found the rooms claustrophobic, but others felt the low prices justified the squeeze. Emma Mills, from London, stayed at the hotel in May. She said: It was compact, but when youre in New York youre not there to sit in a room. Westminsters report raises concerns over the lack of natural light or ventila- tion in rooms. But it adds: T h i s w i l l provide affordable accommoda- tion for visi- tors to this p a r t o f London. 16 Tuesday, 11 August 2009 London Lite Offer available to new approved customers registering on an 18 month minimum term Mix & Match 1100 plan. SIMON BUTTON Trocadero to be turned intoabudgetpodhotel by ruth bloomfield Pub attack: David Stevenson Revamp: the Trocadero centre in Piccadilly Small screen: a guest watching TV at the Pod Hotel in New York Loo with no view: a toilet in the small- scale New York Pod Hotel THIS is the father-of- two hacked to death with machetes in a pub beer garden. Scaffolder David Stevenson, 28, was drinking with his girlfriend at the New Inn in Sutton, south- west London, when two men attacked him. His seven-year-old son is said to have witnessed the incident on Sunday evening, in which Mr Stevenson was slashed repeatedly. He was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery but died an hour later. Detectives are questioning three men -- a father and son, aged 56 and 24, and a 20-year-old. Police believe the attack may have been over a new relationship Mr Stevenson had begun. A Met spokesman said: The parties are thought to be known to each other. We are yet to speak to some witnesses. THE Trocadero is to be turned into a pod hotel offering tiny rooms at knock-down prices. With rooms of only 12 square metres and 17 square metres, it aims to be Londons answer to the Pod Hotel in New York. It will occupy part of the sec- ond to seventh floors in the Grade II-listed building in Piccadilly Circus, and be run by the same US operator. Corridors will run around the outside of the building, and 495 rooms, all en suite, will be grouped around internal court- yards. A planning application for the scheme, provisionally named the Piccadilly Hotel, comes before Westminster council later this week. New Yorks Pod Hotel is described by its operator Accor as a budget-minded travellers dream come true, with Sonofpubmachete victimsawattack index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html24.html25.html26.html27.html28.html29.html30.html31.html32.html33.html34.html35.html
