Police are investigating reports that the 30-year-old was fatally injured when he threw a woman against the plate glass window of clothing chain store Banana Republic on Regent Street, shattering the glass. It is believed the pair were arguing before the incident, in which the man suffered injuries to an artery. The woman, also 30, was taken to hospital with cuts. Her inju- ries are not thought to be life-threatening. A Scotland Yard spokesman said officers were alerted by a bystander to a row at around 2.15am. An ambulance was called but paramedics were unable to save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said today that they knew his identity, but were trying to contact his next of kin before releasing his name. Officers interviewed the injured woman in detail this morning. The pair, who police said knew each other, were believed to be homeless. Passers-by are believed to have spoken to police, who say they are treating the death as non-suspicious. The man is expected to be formally identified today, before a postmortem examina- tion is carried out.
