16 Monday, 10 August 2009 London Lite THESE are the first images of the new 1bn Terminal 2 planned for Heathrow. The computer-generated pictures show the glass-fronted building that will increase the terminals capacity by 11.5million to around 20million passengers a year. Airport owner BAA claims the terminal will be environmentally friendly and use renewable materials. The structure, which will house Star Alliance airlines such as BMI and Lufthansa, will produce 40 per cent less carbon. The roof has large windows to reduce the need for artificial lighting, as well as solar panels. The first phase is due to be finished in 2013, and the second part, due in 2019, will extend the new T2 into the existing Terminal 1 site. Fast talkAninstant interview with... NOEL CLARKE The 33-year-old Bafta-winning actor, writer and director is one of the judges for the Virgin Media Shorts film-making competition. Judging or performing? Judging. Ive performed in a few short films so to be able to judge them now in a position of emperor, king and powerful overlord is nice. Bafta or Oscar? I already have a Bafta so it would be nice to have an Oscar. And if I did win one Id never react like Cuba Gooding Jr did when he won. His should have been taken away for his acceptance speech performance. Acting or directing? Directing, because then I can put myself in the film as an actor and I definitely wont end up on the cutting room floor. London or LA? I love the vibe in London. Id go to Hollywood for a film but I dont like the place. Its very false and Id be in constant fear of earthquakes. Celebrity or anonymity? Anonymity. I just like doing my work, going to Sainsburys to buy nappies, then going home to look after my boy. Im not into falling out of clubs and all that rubbish. Gemma Arterton or Olga Kurylenko? Thats a tough one. Ive just finished shooting Centurion with Olga, and Gemma (left) is a judge with me. I havent acted with Gemma yet so Id have to say her. And Olga spent the whole time on Centurion trying to kill me. Laura Dawkins watched horrified as Christine Allen became trapped between the lift car and an outer door on the eighth f loor of an Essex tower block. Firefighters tried to free Mrs Allen, but she was pro- nounced dead at the scene in Lambourne Court, Woodford Green, early yesterday. The lift had continued to move up after Mrs Allen, 50, stepped inside the car. Her head was struck as she tried to jump out again. Ms Dawkins, 26, said she reported the faulty lift to Redbridge council about four months ago. She said: I told the council many times the lift was broken. It kept breaking down and sometimes one door would open but another would close. Sometimes it was higher [in the shaft] than it should be. All I got from the council is that they havent the funding. My mum was lovely, always thinking of oth- ers. She was visiting me and I was there w h e n i t happened. Mrs Allens husband Leslie, who met her w h e n t h e y worked for the charity Animal H e l p, s a i d : Christine had a lovely personality. It hasnt hit me yet, Im in shock. Redbridge council said today: We were shocked by this tragic death. Redbridge council and Redbridge Homes will be working closely with the Health and Safety Executive to find out exactly how this happened.
