Its the North. Its confusing. Gritty Bafta. For this take-off of Red Riding, the entire dialogue consists of the words gritty and Bafta, declaimed with method-style authenticity. Laser-precise satire. The Great Piano Scam Channel 4, 7.35pm ThIS dazzling real-life tale of deceit is worthy of a sophisticated hollywood drama. Classical music-lovers were enthralled at the start of the decade, when pianist Joyce hatto emerged from the reclusive existence shed led since a public breakdown decades ago, to produce acclaimed recordings of notoriously difficult works. That she was suffering from cancer and was said to have created this brilliance in a studio shed in her garden only added to the appeal of the story. Yet, after hatto died in 2006, it emerged all was not what it seemed -- and her recording engineer husband had much to answer for. G oldie teeters on the thinnest dividing line between brave and plain foolhardy in this two-part documentary on his classical composing debut. Courage: with enthusiastic aplomb the drum&bass legend takes up the invitation from the director of the Proms to write a short work inspired by the theme of evolution. Not so clever: its not only Goldies first go at classical but the dJ doesnt really play an instrument or read -- let alone write -- music. in fact hes never even been to a classical concert before. How the heck will he get his ideas into shape for a full- size orchestra and choir to per- form the piece at the Royal Albert Hall?Music to our ears: Goldie composes a piece for the BBC Proms Coronation Street ITV1, 7.30pm/8.30pm CheSNeY (Sam Aston, pictured) doesnt know what to make of it as Fiz searches desperately for her ring -- but will she tell him shes got engaged to John? And Beckys decision to ask Roy to be the one to give her away at the wedding turns out to be more rewarding than she expected. ahead. Goldie won over a whole new mainstream audience with his winning honesty and indomitable energy in Maestro, and theyre in evidence again here as he seizes upon the new musical opportunities with the glee of a kid let loose in a sweet shop. Were in danger of giving everyone a hard hat, he grins on discovering the power of the titanic Albert Hall organ that will be at his composing command. Yet the frustration mounts as Goldie grapples with the diffi- culties of notation and har- mony, until he wails: i feel like a blind man grabbing passers- by in a room.
