Filming a guest stylist slot on the Style Networks How Do I Look? makeover show, I told my frumpy hippy subject that she looked like shed thrown up on herself -- and made her cry. Then I felt super-guilty and made her over in the hottest dress and heels I could find, until she cried again -- but this time with happiness. Phew! The pice de rsistance was a high-waisted fishtail skirt, which gave her the hourglass silhouette she never thought she could have. Seriously, its a much more flattering shape than youd think -- Selfridges Rompersuitshavegrownup STREETSTYLEInassociationwithSpecsavers STRIPE 28, Topshop PURPLE 26.99, River Island BLACK 245, Tooshie at net-a- porter.com PRINTED 82, emobi swimwear. com FLORAL 24, asos.com GREEN 76, Aguaclara at figleaves. com W E ADMIT it, when the playsuit first hit the catwalks a few summers ago we dismissed it as a one-season wonder. The all-in-one night- mare isnt exactly easy to wear and doesnt shout classic. So its some- thing of a sartorial surprise that the jumpsuit -- from short and sweet playsuits to long and loose rompers -- has turned out to be anything but a flash in the pan. This summer, designer looks were full-length and fabulously glam, with our faves found at Seventies-inspired Marios Schwab, safari-style Bottega Veneta and utility-chic DKNY. Londoners have embraced the trend wholeheartedly -- we snapped tons of full-length and cropped jumpsuits on the streets this week. The full-length jumpsuit is undoubtedly a winning party look. When teamed with vertiginous heels and some seriously glossy s t y l i n g , y o u w i l l l o o k ultra-cool among all those run-of- the-mill frocks. If money is no object then check out Halstons black wrap-top jumpsuit (1,110), which is pure Seventies and has Bianca Jagger written all over it. We also love Stella McCartneys silk backless jump- suit in black or white (1,145, net-a-porter. com). With harem-style pants, the acres of billowing silk make it very rock star- worthy. Weve spotted a great copycat style at All Saints for a more reasonable 110. Not convinced the romper really is a stayer? Then jump into a high street suit instead -- youll be spoilt for choice. River Islands slinky navy jumpsuit (39.99) will look great with gladiators by day and can easily be glammed up with layers of gold jewellery (so hot for autumn, too) and heels come dusk. Also try asos.com for unbeatable choice (both long and short), from 32. Short playsuits are even more versatile and, surpris- ingly, more flattering as there is less fabric either to cling to you or swamp you. Brilliant for the beach or lazy park days, Topshops corset-style Hawaiian playsuit (45) is super- tropical and fun, making it the perfect summer romper. Other casual looks can be found at Miss Selfridge, where denim versions can be snaffled for just 35. More tailored-styles can even pass for the office -- try tea dress looks. Our fave is a ditsy, blue floral print suit at Oasis (42), with cute ruffle sleeve detail. So go on girls, jump to it!
