It isnt exactly a glowing portrayal of the national hero. Halls King (played, with a decreasingly annoying vibrato, by David Harewood), is a pessimistic, vain, chain-smoking, adulterous, grumbling sissy with smelly feet. Hes visited in his hotel room by Camae (brilliantly vivacious Lorraine Burroughs), who turns out to be much more than a hotel maid. The witty, topical banter they exchange is enthralling. But the lighting is confusing, the drama never quite recovers from the clichd twist, and the revelation that even icons have their flaws is hardly a revelation.
