14 Tuesday, 21 July 2009 London Lite by GeorGina littlejohn DJ Fearne gets police guard after death threat by text A TERRIFIED Fearne Cotton had to be escorted home by police after she received death threats during her Radio 1 show, it emerged today. The DJ was sent the disturbing text messages while she presented the Official Chart Show with co-host Reggie Yates. A source said they were graphic and made her fear for her life. Police arrested a 21-year-old man in Derby on Sunday after the threats had been sent. The man was transferred to London for questioning and received a caution, as well as a harassment warning, Scotland Yard said. Cotton, 27, was given a police escort home from the studio. A source told The Sun: Fearne was very scared and shaken. Police escorted her home because of the severe nature of the messages. They were very graphic and made her fear for her life. She has never come across anything like this before. Listeners are always polite when they text banter in -- nothing like this. A police spokesman said: A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with send- ing threatening SMS text messages. He subsequently received a caution. Former Top Of The Pops presenter Cotton is due to take over Jo Whileys weekday show on Radio 1 in September.
