(Revolver, 15.99, cert 18) paul joseph A FORMER MI5 officer who was jailed for leaking documents to the press has revealed he has a transvestite other self. David Shayler was jailed for seven weeks under the Official Secrets Act in 2000 after stories appeared in newspapers about alleged illegal activities in the intelligence services, mainly an MI6 plot to assassinate Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi. The 43-year-old now lives in a squat in Surrey and calls his cross- dressing alter ego Delores Kane. He also dubs himself Messiah out of a belief he can save humanity and has a website called I Am Messiah dedicated to his views. Mr Shaylers former girlfriend, Annie Machon, who also worked for MI5, believes his long fight with the Government to avoid prosecution has led him to suffer a breakdown. She said today: I believe David is a good and honourable man but he has had some sort of severe breakdown. I do blame the Government and the intelligence agencies for what he has become. They have ruined his life. Mr Shayler, who believes the world will end in 2012, posed yesterday as Delores and said: Jesus was a transvestite. He said that his mission to save the world included growing large quantities of hemp both for food and biofuel. He also admitted smok- ing large quantities of cannabis.
