He and his wife Charlotte, a supermarket buyer, pay a 3,000 annual service charge but enjoy the use of two tennis courts, a childrens playground and barbecue area. They are selling the property privately for 475,000 through propertybroker.co.uk. Simon says: This is one of the biggest complexes in West Hampstead and it is also one of the better- managed blocks. I dont think the tennis courts on their own add value, but the fact that there is a play area and really well-maintained communal gardens means that together, it is certainly a good investment. Friends can come over and play tennis with us in the summer. These kinds of flats dont come up very often as there are people who have lived here since the Seventies who either keep them and rent them out, or pass them on to another member of the family. We love it so much were actually going to move to another apartment within the block. MAREE MACFARLANE, 42, a pilates instructor, and husband Stuart, 43, bought their detached five-bed house in the new Woodlands Terrace complex in Muswell Hill off-plan in 2007 for 1.8m. They live there with son Callum, 10, and daughter Niamh, eight. The nine-house development includes a shared tennis court and woodland area. Maree says: As a child I walked around with a tennis racket in one hand and a ball in the other, so we were very excited to find this place. Were the only couple in the complex who both play. In winter we use the court every day. Now we try to get out at least twice each day, depending whether the courts booked or not. As summers here, its getting busier but its great to see the facilities being used. The court was a real bonus, too, because Niamh is a good player. She keeps saying she wants to be a world champion but I dont think Im pushy enough! All her friends want to come over and play on the court as do most of the other children on the development. Its great to have all the children out the back, laughing and playing and having a good time.
