Join the army of adoring fans tonight as she gets behind the decks and spins the tunes at Islingtons old Queens Head, along with Real Gold, Danny Boy and others. Tonight, 8pm-2am, 4. The Old Queens Head, 44 Essex Road, N1 (theoldqueenshead.com) being blissfully ignorant (in this case, of other forms of club music) is preferable to constantly challenging your tastes. I think its vital to try new things. For those who want to keep experimenting, theres a host of unusual club nights in the capital this weekend. Tonight, head down to ICA on The Mall where the iconic electronica of the Ninja Tune label will be in full effect. Daedelus will be doing a glitch-hop set, plus theres a DJ and AV set from DJ Food and DK. King Cannibal and Cursor Miner complete a belting line-up. Also putting the arty into party is tomorrow nights Club Cool bash at Bethnal Greens Resistance Gallery. Its a battered old warehouse down a back street but seek it out and youll find a rocknrave party hosted by The Coolness, with DJs playing everything from indie to dubstep. Sunday sees Londons clued-up party people head to the Boom Boom Club at The Bathhouse, a former Turkish bath in Bishopsgate Churchyard. This recently revamped venue closes the weekend with a mix of Fifties swing, rocknroll, burlesque and cabaret performances. The desire to listen to new music and immerse yourself in new experiences is an important one. Its the desire to be advanced beyond the faceless humanoid robots who live the same pedestrian life. Ignore those who say youre just trying to be cool, because seeking out exclusionary coolness is part of nightlifes rich tapestry. clubland@thelondonlite.co.ukl LIVINGFORTHEWEEKENDER The fun comes home: get that Ibiza clubbing feeling at THAT in south-east London Members only EigHT Moorgate (1 Dysart Street, EC2) is a glamorous new destination in the City. Whether its a tribute to a dead American DJ legend that most of the clubs punters have never heard of, or the club promoter getting married (a truly touching moment that I once witnessed at a rave in Coventry), or simply celebrating the passing of a new minute, the calendar is permanently set to party time in clubland. So if hip French electro label ed Banger wants to celebrate six and a half years in the business, then no one will raise an eyebrow. Busy P, DJ Mehdi, Mystery Jets, Friendly Fires and more help blow out the candles at this energetic party. ed Banger Six And A Half Birthday @ The Coronet, 26-28 New Kent Rd, Se1 (020 7701 1500), 9pm-5am, 15. With the DJs in a beach hut and lush palm foliage dotted between the wooden seating and around the dance floor, the 700-capacity terrace opened up like a secret Spanish gar- den behind the club. Lewis Wright was throwing out a great tech house set and, despite the tropical storm wed suffered earlier in the day, it had turned into a beautiful evening for dancing outside. London has been crying out for a space like this, club promoter Gareth Ingham told me. We can do whatever we want out here! there are too many corporate-owned clubs in this city. Were independ- ent which gives us so much flexibility -- we can get creative and really try and bring Ibiza to the UK. this f lexibility also allows for the full spec- trum of events here, from drum&bass raves on Fridays to the Balearic offshoots its becoming famous for. Plus with the imminent installation of a vortex sound system -- and no neighbours to complain about the jaw-breaking decibels -- the promot- ers are adamant no element of your Ibiza experience will be left to chance. as we eased into some dancing on the open-air dance floor, we were soon being asked to make way for the main attraction of the night. We watched open-mouthed as an In Bed With Space honey regaled the crowd with a fire dancing display. as the sun came up we admitted defeat, donned our shades and headed for the taxi rank. this could just be the summers hotspot, with nights to suit all musical tastes over the next three months. and as for a taste of Balearic summertime at a bargain 8, you cant say fairer than that.
