From the start, the set poses real problems. Algernons london flat, furnished in Ikea white, resembles a municipal leisure centre. A mirrored bank, intended to suggest the characters narcissism, dazzles uncomfortably. Jo Herberts Gwendolen is poised and lucy Briggs- Owens Cecily suitably pert, while dominic Tighe, in the key role of Algernon, is languid and fluent. less satisfactory is Susan Wooldridges lady Bracknell. Sporting an enormous haystack of a hat, she is a puzzling combination of gorgon and faded coquette, and in her more indignant moments hoots unnervingly.
