Thats right, sales of springers have soared, with John Lewis announcing a leap of 55 per cent last year, with that figure expected to bounce even higher this summer. You can understand why, after all, trampolining gives you carte blanche to do that one thing all kids instinctively love -- jump on the bed. But trampolining isnt just good, old- fashioned fun, its also shaping up to be the new fitness craze. According to recent newspaper reports, one mum reckons she lost nearly 8st in nine months by boinging around on her mini-trampoline and fans say it improves pretty much everything from cardiovas- cular fitness and core mus- cle strength to posture, co- ordination and balance. Thats why, on one of the hottest days of the year, I am in a youth centre near Greenwich, going redder and redder in the face as, 15 feet in the air, I try to attempt moves I couldnt even do on the ground when I was a teenager. Thecoaches Anne-SonIA KInG had been working as a trampoline coach for more than 10 years when she founded Greenwich Bouncers Trampoline Academy last year. now, with the help of daughters, Chanelle, 16, and natalie, 23, she offers weekly trampoline sessions for adults and children, as well as a six-week Bounce Your Way To Fitness course. Boots pharmacist Angela Chalmers answers your health queries. What causes it? When your skin is exposed to the sun it excretes melanin, a pigment which helps stop it from burning. Sunburn occurs when exposure to the sun exceeds melanins ability to protect your skin. What can I do? Stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm, apply a lot of sunscreen of factor 15 or above at least half an hour before going into the sun and re-apply frequently. Use a spray for those difficult to reach places such as the backs of your legs and dont forget about your scalp and lips. If you do get sunburn, a cold flannel or a cool bath or shower can ease the symptoms. Try to rest, increase your fluid intake to tackle dehydrat- ion, and if the burn is severe seek medical advice.
