14 Wednesday, 1 July 2009 London Lite FINANCIER IS FIRST BRITON TO HAVE PIONEERING OP by mark blunden I lost 10 stone through my belly button Slim Jim: James now weighs a very much lighter 15st after his special gastric band surgery Heavy going: James before surgery, at 25st A CITY financier has lost almost half his body weight after becoming Britains first patient to undergo a belly button opera- tion to restrict the size of his stomach. James Jemmett-Page, 23, from London Bridge, had the 45-minute treatment after ballooning to more than 25st. The number of Britons undergoing gastric band surgery, which restricts food intake, is soaring. But Mr Jemmett-Pages opera- tion was the first time doctors had used belly button surgery to apply a band. They made one incision instead of the normal five to insert the band and since the procedure in February, Mr Jemmett- Page has lost more than 10st. The NHS uses belly button surgery to remove diseased organs, including kidneys, through the stomach. This cuts the risk of infection, reduces recovery time and leaves no visible scars. Mr Jemmett-Page, who works for a stockbroking firm and now weighs 15st, said he was able to leave the hospital, in Manchester, within 24 hours of the private 7,500 procedure. He said: Having an operation like this is not an easy option but it does remove the risk of health problems in future. index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html24.html25.html26.html27.html28.html29.html30.html31.html32.html33.html34.html35.html36.html37.html38.html39.html40.html41.html42.html43.html
