FRANKLY my dear, we couldnt be more excited about the 70th anniversary of the premiere of Gone With The Wind. It provides the perfect excuse for a pilgrimage to Georgia, the American state that inspired the book by Margaret Mitchell -- even if the film was actually shot in Los Angeles. The premiere, which took place in December 1939, was a huge event in Atlanta -- Governor Eurith Dickinson Rivers declared a three-day holiday and politicians asked Georgians to dress in period clothing. Come 2009, theres no three-day holiday, but should you wish to dress up as Scarlett were sure no one will mind. BED DOWN WHILE in Atlanta, stay at the five-star Georgian Terrace Hotel (thegeorgianterrace.com), where Clark Gable spent the night after the films premiere. The hotel still hosts A-listers -- George Clooney and Diana Ross recently checked in. Doubles from 85. REFUEL PITTYPATS PORCH (pittypats restaurant.com -- Pittypat was Scarletts aunt) is crammed with Gone With The Wind memorabilia. It has been running since the Sixties and serves up traditional heart- stopping southern fare. Start with pecan-coated catfish fingers or South Georgia gumbo, followed by Rhetts mixed grill or Twelve Oaks BBQ ribs, all washed down with Scarletts Passion (a straw- berry daiquiri). Mains from 8 to 18. CULTURE VULTURE CHECK out the Margaret Mitchell House, where the author wrote her Pulitzer Prize-winner, then simply cross the road to visit the G one Wi t h T he Wi nd M ov ie Museum (gwtw.org). 3 places to visit outside Atlanta 1Savannah: filled with stunning, Spanish moss-cladantebellum mansions. 2Athens: studenty, arty partytown.
