TELEVISION Filmchoice FILM RATINGS excellent very good good average poor KEY (R)repeat (S)subtitles on text service STEPHEN MARR BBC2 ITV1 Channel 4 Five London Lite Friday, 26 June 2009 29 Dirty Harry ITV1, 10.35pm (1971) ARGUABLY Clint Eastwoods most memorable role. In his debut (and best) outing, Dirty Harry Callahan has to stop a serial killer terrorising San Francisco. From the opening pool sequence (dig the groovy soundtrack), through the do you feel lucky bank robbery, to the final mill shoot-out, its all gravy! Also stars Andy Robinson, above with Eastwood. Eternal Sunshine... More4, 10pm (2004) SORRY about that. The full title is Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, but there wasnt enough room. The wonderfully talented Kate Winslet and the surprisingly talented Jim Carrey, both above, star as a couple who undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories. Carrey, usually OTT in his roles, perfectly conveys emotions of longing and love lost. Carlitos Way ITV4, midnight (1993) THIS is required viewing for anyone in any doubt about Sean Penns acting ability. He steals just about every scene from Al Pacino, above with Penn -- which is never an easy feat. Pacino is dependably brilliant as the ex-con who is trying to go legit and stay away from the drug- fuelled violence of his past. Also stars Penelope Ann Miller. The Ring Two BBC1, 11.40pm (2004) PUT yourself in poor Rachel Kellers shoes. In The Ring (2002), she had to find a way to cheat death after her son accidentally saw a video that had fatal consequences for all its viewers. Believing she has managed to escape a deadly fate Rachel (Naomi Watts, above), enjoys six months of relative peace before evidence starts popping up that there might be a new evil in town.
